Forrester advises IT departments to take smartphones seriously

Businesses should support a range of mobile phone operating systems, but focus their efforts on the Blackberry, Android, and iPhone operating systems, according to analysts at Forrester.

Those systems are among the top four most widely supported mobile operating systems in business, according to Forrester research. Microsoft's Windows Mobile is actually number two behind Blackberry, but the increasing number of business applications for the iPhone means it is poised to overtake Windows for business support, says the analyst.

Nokia re-takes control of Symbian development from Symbian Foundation

Symbian LogoNokia has taken back control of the Symbian mobile operating system from the Symbian Foundation it set up itself just 18 months ago. The Foundation is a consortium of device manufacturers, service and software companies, financial service providers, semiconductor vendors and mobile operators with interests in the platform including Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, HP, AOL, Visa, SanDisk, 3, T-Mobile and many more.

Apple’s iOS 4.2 Available for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch


Apple announced that iOS 4.2, the latest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, is available today for download for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. iOS 4.2 brings over 100 new features from iOS 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2 to iPad, including Multitasking, Folders, Unified Inbox, Game Center, AirPlay, and AirPrint. “iOS 4.2 makes the iPad a completely new product, just in time for the holiday season,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Once again, the iPad with iOS 4.2 will define the target that other tablets will aspire to, but very few, if any, will ever be able to hit.”  Read more: apple.com/ios
